Why Hybrids are so Prevalent

If you’re a cannabis user, you’ve probably been asked once before whether you like indica or sativa better. You probably may notice some people are frustrated by this question too. Why is that? The truth is most strains are actually sativa dominated for a reason. In this, we’ll go over why that is, and some factors to consider.

The original Terms of Indica and Sativa

Indica and sativa were first used to talk about the different strains that cannabis had. While there is some debate, usually, there are three species that are most readily recognized. They are indica, sativa, and ruderalis. Indica plants are shorter, have leaves that are broader, and are known to be in climates that are colder.

Sativa is one that’s thinner, has taller statues, and also is better off in climates that are nice and warm. Over time though, this is used to describe the ways that it impacts you. Some believe that sativa was meant to offer a more stimulating, energizing experience, benefiting those with anxiety, healing with creativity, and then of course, boosting the focus of such.

Indica, in contrast, is known to sedate people, offering full-body experiences, improving pain, insomnia, and sometimes, helping with the issues involving relaxation. In truth, that’s not the case. The truth is these actually can impact you in different ways. We all have what’s called an endocannabinoid system, and these receptors react in different ways, so you might experience one type of effect, or another, and it’s important to understand this.

The system that you have differs from everything, and it’s important to understand that these differences do happen in other ways too.

It’s also about your terpenes

Another factor to consider, are the terpenes. These are little parts of the plant that secret oils and such, and they provide a variety of effects. While it is used to ward off plants, they actually can impact the cannabis experience.Your terpene profile, and how they interact, along with the ECS that you have is pretty important.

That’s why, when you’re trying to figure out whether or not you prefer indica or sativa strains, they might get annoyed, since the terpenes offer the effects that you’re looking for.

Along with that, it’s also part of the reason why not every single strain is a pure indica or a sativa. Most of those strains are quite rare, and it’s important to remember that.

Hybrids for instance, are considered cannabis with both the indica, and the sativa characteristics of this. While it can take after one parent or another, the goal of this is the best of both worlds sort of thing, taking the best from each parent, and getting rid of what you don’t want.

Hybrids are very common for that reason. For most of the popular strains that are labeled indica or sativa, in their ancestral history, there is probably some form of a hybrid within this.

In most cases, these hybrids show dominance in one type of species or another. So they may be sativa, or indica dominant. They usually are the types as well to have this in place.

There are some that do relax the body for the most part, despite being a hybrid. A good example of this, is Northern Lights, which is a strain that’s purely indica, but it’s also got some sativa characteristics in there.

In general, these strains have different parts, and it’s partially why, despite the desire to find strains that dominate in one way or another, it’s very rare for a person to find unless it’s found in the wild.
