A Brief History of THC

THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is a chemical that was found not too long ago. It was found by Raphael Mechoulam, who was a doctor, and this chemical of course was responsible for the “high” feeling you get when you consume cannabis. But it’s great for a lot of other reasons too, such as limiting or reducing the anxiety you’re dealing with, helping with inflammation and pain, stimulating the appetite that you have, and also aiding with nausea in lots of cases. So let’s talk about how cannabis came to be.

The Discovery

Before Dr. Mechoulam found this, it was something that a lot of cultures used for centuries. In fact, many different cultures liked this because it was naturally psychoactive, and it would help with a variety of different ailments.

Cannabis was vital for a lot of cultures, but THC wasn’t fully a point of interest until the discovery by Dr. Mechoulam. After he discovered it, another chemist by the name of Roger Adams found THC, and was able to synthesize this chemical within a lab.

Initially, this was isolated as a part of an extract of hashish, which is what helped with studying the other kinds of cannabinoids that are in there.

From this point, the research soon became much more mainstream, and the possibility of using this in a medicinal sense became much more well-known.

THC Pharmacology

Another big, important thing was the research and pharmacology of THC.

There were both animal and human studies that utilized cannabis within the experiments that were there, with researchers also looking to find out the different side effects, including issues with sensory perception, the paranoia, drowsiness, and the red eyes you get from this too.

This is because of the different interactions that THC directly has with your endocannabinoid receptors of course, which are used to further homeostasis within your body.

But as the ECS was continued to be studied, there was now more that was found, including the way that THC is able to bind directly to the different CB receptors within your ECS, and it’s what created a lot of the psychoactive elements that come with THC as well.

The future Research

So what do we know about the future research?

Right now, we’re still looking  at all of the different potential benefits that are out there.

Right now, we don’t know everything about the endocannabinoid system, but the research will indeed continue to grow in a lot of cases, with a lot of potential for even THC and some of the other cannabinoids that are there to treat different conditions.

There are some different areas of research that are being focused on. One of them, of course, is the way that it helps with cancer, and possibly the treatment of such.

The isolation of the different cannabinoids might be another study that they focus on too. For instance, CBN is a minor cannabinoid, but we’re finding that it’s actually better for sleep than anything else, and there is a chance that there may be more products focused on this manner.

There is also the future in terms of the way that the uses are possibly used, and the methods of delivery. We have a few ways right now, and with the advent of so many different ways to consume edibles, we may see a whole lot more too.

Right now, the research is still budding, but one thing is for sure: the research is possibly endless, and there is a lot that THC can do to help you in many regards as well too.
